Hello! My name is Bree Smith and I am currently a Sophomore at the University of South Alabama. Im a 19 year-old Elementary Education major, and I cant wait to start teaching! I have wanted to teach children for as long as I can remember. Children have just always been a passion of mine and they always brighten my day. I am currently employed at a local school and I have my very own class that I watch over everyday. While my job can be very stressful, it has also taught me many things about what I want to incorporate into my classroom and how I plan on teaching my future students.

My goal for this blog is to explain to everyone what I would like to incorporate into my classroom and how I want to use these things. My goals include utilizing things like blogs, life lessons, and how to have fun while learning. These are all very important to me, and I feel that it is very important for my students to learn these as well. I hope you enjoy!

Keeping in Contact with Parents

One of the biggest things that I plan on doing as a teacher is keeping in constant contact with the parents of my students. This may not be over the telephone or anything like that, but a really good way to do it is through my blog. I really want the parents of my students to feel like they are connected to whats going on in the classroom and what their children are learning. I plan on doing this by posting upcoming events to my bog and eve do a student of the week, so that they can see how thier child has excelled. I would also like to do some other type of activity that involves the parents like allowing my kids to record a podcast of a story that they have told. This would allow the parents to go and listen to their children whenever they like. I hope to come up with more ways to keep the parents involved, but for now, this is what stands out to me the most!

How to Make My Class Fun!

One thing that I am really excited about when it comes to strating my teaching carrer is thinking of fun and exciting ways to keep my students engaged and have fun learning. I hope to incorprate games, outdoors, and even trips in my teaching. Since I plan on teaching younger children, I know that making learning fun is very important since their attention is only held for so long before they get bored. I plan on thinking of new and exciting things everyday to keep them loving school and wanting to come back!

The first thing that I plan on doing is using the outdoors as a means of teaching. There are planty of activities that my class could do just in nature that would be fun and educational. We could look at different kinds of flowers and plants to learn about the water cycle, and even pick out different animals in nature. Another thing that I plan on doing is creating some kind of fun reading area inside my classroom. I would love to make a colorful and comfortable place for the children to simply relax and read every once in a while.

Rules are something that can get very boring in the classroom and the students may even feel constricted because of them. On thing that I would like to do is maybe turn the rule making activity into a game. I would love to hear a rule from each one of my students that we could put into effect, and maybe even reward them for following the rules. There are planty of other things that I would love to do in my classroom, but these are just a few. I know that I could go on and on, but these should do for now!

Teaching Tolerance and Respect

Tolerance and respect among young children is one of the most important things that you can teach them. I feel that teaching young students about what tolerance and respect is and why it is important is extremeley useful in future circumstances that they may face. There are so many children today who don't understand this concept, simply because it has not been taught to them They have not been taught that everyone is the same and that they should not make fun of someone else because of the color of their skin, their accent, or even the way they act. I feel that their us no better place than the classroom to teach these lessons. Home is another place where it is important for students to hear about what it means to have respect for others, and that is why I want to incorporate the parents into this lesson. I plan on keeping my students' parents up-to-date with what I am teaching their children so that they can continue the lesson at home. I feel that this is a very important topic that needs to be addresses both at home and in the classrom, and it needs to be the focus of many teachers as well.

Creating a Comfortable Atmosphere

Creating a comfortable atmosphere for my students is one thing that I am very focused on . I want my students to feel ay home when they walk into class each morning and that they can share things with me in confidence. One way that I want my classroom to be comfortable is by allowing my students to speak their mind, within ceratin boundaries of course. While I don't want them to blurt out every comment that comes to mind, especially if it is potentially harmful to other students, I do want them to be comfortable enough to know that they can speak their mind and not be judged.

I would also love for my students to feel like the classroom is a place where learning is fun, not just a something that is drilled into their heads. I know that sometimes learning can be very overwhelming, especially for very young children. By making it fun, however, I thik that they will want to come to class every day to see what new activity I have in store for them. I am so excited about getting started with teaching and really putting my ideas to practice!

Blogs in the Classroom

One thing that I would love to integrate into my classroom when I begin teaching is blogs. Blogs have many uses and can be very helpful when it comes to relaying messages to my students or even posting events that have happened or will happen soon. Blogs also allow you to add things like gadgets that can be helpful and entertaining to students.

The first thing that I would definitely do with my blog is allow students to access it to view upcoming assignments or events that are going to happen in the classroom. Blogs can be a great way to remind about field trips that can be easily forgotten. Another way that blogs can be used is by posting pictures or even comments about students who have excelled each week and why. I would love to pick one student each week and write a post about what they have done that week to excel. I would also love to post pictures of what we have been doing in the classroom, such as activities, games, or even projects. This is a good way to keep parents involved and let them actually see what their children are learning. Overall, I feel that blogs will be extremely useful in improving my classroom!
